The Local Church
The Love of the Body of Christ
Some of my earliest childhood memories of singing with the other little boys and girls at a church meeting, and of my mother telling my sister and me Bible stories. I am grateful that the Lord had mercy on me, and sovereignly arranged for me to be raised in a Christian family.
However, I did not have a personal and intimate relationship with God until I was studying at UCLA. I recall one summer when I was going through a particularly difficult time. I felt that even my closest friends from school could not help me pass through that difficult time or offer any consolation. As much as my friends may have tried to comfort me, the circumstances only seemed to turn more grim and hopeless.
It was then that a sister meeting with the local church prayed with me, and led me to the Word of God. The Lord faithfully answered our desperate prayers, and through this experience, the Lord revealed the preciousness of the Body of Christ to me and gave me a fresh appreciation for the fellowship in the local churches (1 Cor. 12:27).
